Health Services
Mission Statement
- Rutgers University Health participates in the general mission of the university, which includes student education, retention, academic success, leadership and healthy personal growth and development.
- The health service functions as an integral part of the network of student support services with special attention to health. We provide access to comprehensive preventive health programs, care for accidents and illness, and linkage to specialty services on a twenty-four hour basis at all times. We utilize a holistic approach, which recognizes the connection between healthy bodies and healthy minds. We work closely with mental health and drug and alcohol services on campus.
- We function under the direction of the Newark Provost’s office by consulting on matters related to the health and welfare of the campus at large, and we collaborate with colleagues on the New Brunswick and Camden campuses in matters of mutual importance.
- We provide low cost pharmaceutical services to the Rutgers community and high quality low cost insurance plans for all eligible students.
- We apply the guidelines of Healthy People 2010 and Healthy Campus 2010 to encourage the development of a wellness culture for the entire campus.
- We coordinate the health promotion, which includes the education and training of student health advocates and UNITY Theatre performers. We educate students in formal classes regarding health and social justice.
- We direct and coordinate educational and advocacy programs to prevent or respond to incidents of sexual assault and interpersonal violence.
- We work with Rutgers Environmental Health & Safety and the campus community to ensure a safe workplace for university employees, and provide occupational health services and referrals for work-related accidents or illness.
We maintain relationships with New Jersey local and State resources and agencies for training and communications
