Health Services Plus Plan
The Health Services Plus Plan is designed to support the Health Centers by providing benefits for such services as some labs tests, referrals to specialists and Emergency Room visits. This plan is an excess plan and is secondary to a parent's or spouses insurance plan (if applicable).
a. Any other health insurance coverage is primary
b. Maximum benefit of $5,000 per condition
c. Covers hospitalization and certain outpatient services for covered condition

Full - Time Students (back to top)
a. Full-Time students are automatically enrolled in the Health Services Plus Plan and have access to the Rutgers
University Health Centers. (The mandatory fee is included in the College Fee on your tuition bill).
b. Coverage for the fall semester begins September 01, 2008, and coverage for the spring semester begins January 20, 2009 and ends 8/31/09.
For insurance purposes, full time status is defined as 12 credits per semester and 9 credits per semester for graduate students.
Part - Time Students (back to top)
a. Part-Time students who wish to utilize the Rutgers University Health Centers may purchase the Health
Services Plus Plan. Simply enroll online www.aetnastudenthealth.com.
b. Students may enroll online at the Aetna Student Health website. (This is the preferred method) Aetna Student Health accepts Visa and Mastercard credit cards and electronic checks. Hard copies of the application are available at the Office of Student Insurance, Hurtado Health Center 1st Floor, New Brunswick,
(908-732-8285). The fees for the 2008-2009 per semester fees are as follows:
New Brunswick / Piscataway Students - $171.25
Newark Students - $141.75
Camden Students - $172.75
The check should be made payable to Rutgers University.
Students must be registered for at least 1 credit per semester in order to be eligible to purchase student insurance.
Optional Additional Coverage - Student Health Insurance Plan (back to top)
a. Health Services Plus Plan must be purchased in order to be eligible for the Student Health Insurance Plan I or II
b. Available in the amount of $100,000 (Plan 1) or $250,000 (Plan 2) per condition. Annual policy effective dates - 9/1/08 – 8/31/09 The annual premium for Plan 1 is $465
The annual premium for Plan 2 is $606
c. Plan 1 or Plan 2 can be purchased only in the open enrollment period of each semester unless there is a change in life event affecting your insurance coverage such as loss of insurance coverage through a job, or you reached the age limit on your current policy.
d. Both Plan 1 and Plan 2 provide benefits for covered medical services after a $250 deductible per condition
has been satisfied. The Plan then pays 80% of the usual and customary charges up to $10,000 of incurred
covered medical expenses and 100% of additional covered medical expenses not to exceed the policy
maximum.
e. To maximize benefits, it is recommended that the Rutgers University Health Centers be utilized when feasible.
f. There are limitations and exclusions to this plan, kindly refer to the certificate [PDF]. For instance, the policy specifically excludes coverage for the treatment of allergies or acne and related prescriptions.
Coverage for Spouse and Children (back to top)
The Health Services Plus Plan, Plan 1 or Plan 2 can be purchased for your spouse, domestic partner, and
dependent children. The spouse or dependent coverage would need to be the same plan as the student. The fees for the spouse and dependents are available online at aetnastudenthealth.com.
How to Submit Claims (back to top)
Payment will be made directly to the provider unless bill receipts and proof of payment are submitted.
Present your Aetna Health insurance card to the provider when you are receiving services. Most providers will submit the bills to Aetna Student Health directly. If they do not, itemized bills (with the providers name, address, tax ID, diagnosis code, and procedure code, date of service and amount billed) can be submitted to Aetna at the following address:

Payment will be made directly to the provider unless bill receipts and proof of payment are submitted. An Explanation of Benefits (EOB) will be mailed to you when a claim is processed. If you have primary insurance, the itemized bill and the primary EOB needs to be submitted to the above address.
Dental Insurance and Discount Plans (back to top)
This year there is a new dental insurance plan. With the Dental Advantage plan, members choose a participating primary care dentist and have most of their preventative and restorative services covered by a copayment for each visit. The cost of the Dental Advantage plan is $207 for the year.
Also available is a dental discount plan. Vital Savings plan by Aetna is a discount program helping you save an average of 15- 50% on a wide array of dental serves – with one low annual fee of $25 per person. Members pay for the services at participating providers, but the fee is discounted.
