WHAT RESOURCES ARE AVAILABLE AT THE SEXUAL RESOURCES
SERVICES, RUTGERS-NEWARK (SAS/RUN) ?


SAS/RUN, located within Health Services, Room 104 Blumenthal Hall, is staffed by clinicians who have received special training in the care of survivors of sexual assault.

  • You will receive services in a private space. The incident will be recorded in a medical record, the contents of which are protected as all other medical information.  .
  • The clinician will inform you about available services and options n campus and in the community.
  • If you choose to go to the ER for a forensic examination and want support, a staff member will accompany you. We will also offer to contact the Essex County Rape Care Center which will provide an advocate to accompany and support you if you prefer
  • You may be examined and have minor injuries treated, but we do not have the ability to collect forensic evidence.
  • You will be offered preventative treatment for sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy
  • The clinician will offer to stay in touch with you to be sure your needs are met, and you are recovering from the incident.
  • A report of the incident will be filed with the campus safety administrator in accordance with the Clery Act, a federal regulation.. This report states that a sexual assault occurred, and its location. There is no data to identify the victim or perpetrator. You will not be required to participate in any subsequent investigation.
  • An assault or incident that presents a clear danger to the community will be reported to the campus police immediately. Such incidents include but are not limited to: a stranger attack on campus, presence of any weapon, or an attack by multiple assailants.
